PBL is a research based approach to behaviour management that has been adopted by ACT Public Schools. PBL provides a framework that helps to provide a known approach to behaviour management which enables students, staff, and parents/carers to operate from a commonly understood foundation of expected behaviours and learning. PBL has been found to be suitable for settings from preschool through to year 12. Major strengths of PBL include:
- Behaviour expectations that are school specific are established by the community
- The framework supports schools to keep their existing Values
- Common language is used to reinforce positive behaviours
- Visible reminders support students and staff
- Acknowledgement of appropriate behaviours is part of the PBL framework
- Explicit learning about the expected behaviours occurs in every classroom
- PBL uses an educative approach so there is the opportunity for students to learn behaviour expectations and how to meet these
As part of our PBL journey, we have established the following posters to articulate the expected behaviours in various areas of the school. These posters are displayed in these areas.
